NATURAL WAYS TO STOP SNORING

BEFORE WE TALK SOLUTIONS, LET’S TALK ABOUT CAUSES.

The first step to finding a solution to stop snoring should always start with understanding the cause, which can vary from person to person and range from physical anatomy to behavioral or lifestyle factors. In some cases, snoring may be caused by nasal congestion or sinus infections, more often than not the main cause of snoring is the relaxation of muscles in the mouth and throat during sleep. As you pass from light to deep sleep, your muscles relax and collapse back into the throat, narrowing and even obstructing the airway.  The passage of air through an obstructed airway causes an audible vibration, snoring! Alcohol consumption, being overweight, and sleeping habits can also create or exacerbate an existing snoring habit, but the cause of snoring remains the same.

The cause of snoring is extremely important to keep in mind when searching for a remedy as some solutions will not prevent or alleviate the relaxation of muscles and resulting obstruction of the airway.

1. USE THE POWER OF YOUR OWN BREATHING

Ever heard of EPAP? It stands for Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure. Snoring is caused by air rushing across relaxed muscles in the nose and throat. As you exhale, EPAP creates pressure that stabilizes the upper airway and reduces the snoring.

2. LOSE WEIGHT

Weight loss can help individuals reduce snoring naturally, especially when snoring was not an issue prior to weight gain. Excess fat on the body, especially around the neck, can put undue pressure on the airway and even cause it to partially collapse. This partial airway restriction results in snoring. While weight loss may be helpful for some sufferers, weight loss is not a sure-fire solution, as slimmer individuals can snore too!

3. AVOID ALCOHOL AND SEDATIVES

glass of red wine and bottleThe consumption of booze, tranquilizers or sleeping pills can lead to the depression of your central nervous system, which relaxes the muscles of your throat and jaw. Relaxed muscles in this area can cause the tongue to relax as well and block the throat airway. If you consume these substances frequently, they may be to blame for your snoring habit.

4. VISIT AN ALLERGIST

An allergist can help you determine if your snoring is caused in part by an allergen. Some common irritants such as dust, dust mites and pet dander may all contribute to nighttime snoring. Replacing pillows every six months, dusting ceiling fans and other bedroom surfaces frequently and keeping pets outside the bedroom are all steps that can be taken as natural ways to stop snoring.

5. STOP SMOKING

no smoking symbolResearch has proven smoking is a major contributor to snoring. It is believed snoring as a result of smoking is caused by upper airway irritation and inflammation. Even more concerning, prolonged smoking can lead to permanent damage to the respiratory system. Quit smoking today!

6. KEEP A SCHEDULE

Set a routine and keep it! Going to bed and getting up at the same time each day creates a consistent circadian rhythm, or biological sleep-wake cycle. This helps ensure your body is getting plenty of rest. When we become overtired we experience a deeper sleep that can effect our throat airway in ways similar to drinking alcohol or taking a sedative. Plenty of quality sleep is just one of many natural ways to stop snoring.

7. EXERCISE

Moderate exercise a few times a week is beneficial for a multitude of reasons, including its ability to help you stop snoring naturally. In addition, exercise can be helpful in maintaining a consistent sleep schedule as well as assisting with weight loss; both suggested habits that are natural ways to stop snoring.

8. NASAL CONGESTION

A stuffed-up nose makes breathing difficult, especially at night. Lying down can create a vacuum in your throat, which in turn leads to snoring. You can clear nasal passages by using a Neti pot, an over-the-counter saline spray or a humidifier. Nasal decongestants are another option as they improve inhalation and allow you to breathe more easily both during the day and while sleeping.

Thank you and I wish you Happy Sleeping!

How to Stop Snoring

Cures, Remedies, and Tips for You and Your Partner

How to Stop SnoringJust about everyone snores occasionally, but if snoring happens frequently it can affect the quantity and quality of your sleep and that of your family members and roommates. Snoring can lead to poor sleep and daytime fatigue, irritability, and increased health problems. If your snoring keeps your partner awake, it can also create major relationship problems. Thankfully, sleeping in separate bedrooms isn’t the only remedy for snoring. There are many other effective solutions available to help both you and your partner sleep better at night and deal with the relationship problems caused when one person snores.

What is snoring?

Snoring happens when you can’t move air freely through your nose and throat during sleep. This makes the surrounding tissues vibrate, which produces the familiar snoring sound. People who snore often have too much throat and nasal tissue or “floppy” tissue that is more prone to vibrate. The position of your tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing.

To stop snoring, it’s necessary to first identify exactly how and why you’re snoring. The good news is that no matter the cause, there are solutions to relieve your snoring and help you and your loved one deal with complaints, resentments, and other relationship issues caused by your snoring. Just make an appointment today with Dr. Robert Baker of Beaver Falls, PA or go to his website at sleepmastersofpa.com.

Common causes of snoring

  • Being overweight or out of shape. Fatty tissue and poor muscle tone contribute to snoring. Even if you’re not overweight in general, carrying excess weight just around your neck or throat can cause snoring. Exercising and losing weight can sometimes be all it takes to end your snoring.
  • Age. As you reach middle age and beyond, your throat becomes narrower, and the muscle tone in your throat decreases. While you can do anything about growing older, lifestyle changes, new bedtime routines, and throat exercises can all help to prevent snoring.
  • The way you’re built. Men have narrower air passages than women and are more likely to snore. A narrow throat, a cleft palate, enlarged adenoids, and other physical attributes that contribute to snoring are often hereditary. Again, while you have no control over your build or gender, you can control your snoring with the right lifestyle changes, bedtime routines, and throat exercises.
  • Nasal and sinus problems. Blocked airways or a stuffy nose make inhalation difficult and create a vacuum in the throat, leading to snoring.
  • Alcohol, smoking, and medications. Alcohol intake, smoking, and certain medications, such as tranquilizers like lorazepam (Ativan) and diazepam (Valium), can increase muscle relaxation leading to more snoring.
  • Sleep posture. Sleeping flat on your back causes the flesh of your throat to relax and block the airway. Changing your sleep position can help.

Dr. Robert J Baker DMD Helps New Castle Folks Stop Snoring | Best Snoring Remedy | sleepmastersofpa.com

How to stop snoring with SleepMastersOfPA.com and Dr. Robert J. Baker, MD, of Beaver, PA which suggest oral appliances and beat the snoring epidemic. Read how!

Before you and your spouse resort to sleeping in separate beds, try these remedies for snoring.

Forget about the monster under your bed. If you have a partner who snores, you’re dealing with a monster in your bed — and it’s often a near-nightly showdown. In a new National Sleep Foundation survey, 40 percent of Americans admitted to snoring a few nights per week or more

And the ones who are suffering aren’t usually the folks sawing logs. “The most common side effect of snoring is waking up other people, whether in the same bed or the next bedroom, depending on how loud it is,” says Dr. Robert J. Baker, MD, a medical professional of dentistry of Western Pennsylvania in Beaver Falls, PA, who specializes in the treatment of snoring.

In fact, people with a snoring significant other tend to lose an hour of sleep per night, according to Dr. Baker. Perhaps as a result, “couples in snoring relationships report lower marital satisfaction scores, they have less sex, and they often resort to sleeping apart,” he says.

Snoring is considered a social issue more so than a medical one, although in some cases, it does indicate a more serious problem: obstructive sleep apnea. “When we go to sleep at night, the muscles in the throat relax, and as we breathe in and out, this relaxed tissue tends to vibrate,” explains Dr. Baker. If that tissue simply vibrates — and nothing more — you’ll probably just bother your bedmate. But if that tissue closes as it vibrates, blocking your airway, you may have obstructive sleep apnea and are in need of a sleep appliance. “Snoring and sleep apnea are really just different points on a continuum,” says Dr. Baker.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea, of course sometimes, requires serious medical intervention. However, Sleep Apnea and snoring may be fixed with something as simple as an Oral Appliance that Dr. Baker recommends for all his patients. Go to sleepmastersofpa.com and take the FREE sleep study test to see if you qualify for a sleep appliance that most insurances will take. But simple snoring can often be treated with these at-home remedies:

Adjust your body positioning laying in bed…

If you’re a chronic snorer, back isn’t best. “Most people snore more on the back than they do on the side, and more on the side than they do on the stomach,” says Dr. Baker. It can be tough to switch your preferred sleeping position, so sleep doctors often suggest this trick to encourage people to stay on their side: Sew a pocket on the back of a T-shirt between the shoulder blades, and slip two tennis balls inside.

“When people sleep on their side, their shoulder can get sore. So they roll on their back,” says Dr. Baker. “The tennis balls aren’t very comfortable, so they end up rolling to their other side.”

Not extreme enough? Try the Night Shift Sleep Positioner, a device you wear around your neck that vibrates when you roll onto your back, increasing in intensity until you shift to your side. “I wore it one night, and it drove me crazy,” says Dr. Baker. “But it worked. After a few days of that, you would not be sleeping on your back.”

Play with you pillows…

For some people, the tennis ball trick works — but only because it keeps them up all night. If you simply can’t sleep with sports equipment attached to your pajamas, try resting a body pillow between your legs, which helps align your spine and makes side sleeping more comfortable. You can also wedge a C-shaped pregnancy pillow behind your back, Dr. Baker suggests.

If you still can’t adjust to lying on your side, lie on your back, but prop up your head and shoulders. “You want to make a little incline — a wedge — with a couple pillows,” says Dr. Baker. “It’s not just lifting up your head.” Try placing one underneath your shoulders to elevate your chest, then another two under your head. That may help keep the back of your throat open.

Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages before bed…

It’s not just your inhibitions that loosen up when you’re drinking. “Alcohol preferentially relaxes the muscles in the throat, so everybody’s snoring is worse after a couple drinks,” says Dr. Baker. Plus, since you’re more sedated after drinking, your snoring is less likely to stir you awake, leaving your bedmate to suffer longer. “Most wives will tell you, ‘When my husband goes out drinking with his buddies, he is going to snore like crazy that evening. I don’t even sleep in the bed with him that night,’” says some of Dr. Baker’s patients. The simple fix: Stop your alcohol intake within four hours of bedtime.

Dr. Robert J. Baker of Beaver Falls, PA suggests to all of his patients suffering from any snoring issue to try oral appliances. His patients state that the appliances really do make a difference in their sleep patterns and the lives of their loved ones.

If you or someone that you know has snoring problems, visit sleepmastersofpa.com, take the sleep study test, and Dr. Baker’s office will contact you. You can also visit one of Dr. Bakers offices located in Beaver Falls, New Castle, Sarver, Butler, and Cranberry Township. They will be happy to set you up with an appointment.

Happy Sleeping!

Best Reviews for Snoring Types of Sleep Aids. Who’s the Best? How can you Stop Snoring? Is there a Snoring Cure? What’s the Snoring Remedy? Is there a Sleep Apnea Alternative or trusted Oral Appliance Aids? The answer is YES! Read to find out!

Hello and welcome. I am Dr. Robert Baker of Beaver County, PA. Since there are so many different types of snoring solutions out there I know things can get confusing for you. I will do my best to help you understand each type of solution that is available so you can pick the best one for your snoring problem. If you would just like to skip the reading and get right into the product that can help you, please visit our website <<< by clicking there or continue to read.

One thing that you will notice is that there are many products and devices available that claim they can keep you from snoring. Some of them work, some of them don’t.

Mouthpieces

The first choice and most useful device on the market today is the mouthpiece. I prefer the Elite for several reasons. First of all, it is backed by clinical research that proves it will work for anyone. What may be even more important is how comfortable it is. You can hardly tell when you have it in. It has also completely stopped my snoring. Get this product now!

Given the results that I have experienced, as well as the results of many others, this product receives my highest recommendation. I will personally never use any other product.

Chin Straps

snoring-chin-strap-72Another device commonly used to stop snoring is the chin strap or chin up strap. This device is exactly what it sounds like. It tries to eliminate snoring by simply holding the chin up and keeping your mouth closed.

They normally fit around the chin and the back of your head. There are a few different designs but they all work the same. These straps are nothing new and have mixed reviews at best.

Read more: Anti-snoring Chin Straps: How Do They Work?

Nasal Products

Nasal products are very hit or miss. I’ve never tried one that actually helped me. This kind of solution also includes nasal strips and other devices made to keep your nostrils open wide while you sleep.

Inhaled sprays and other nasal products are more for those with allergies, sinus problems, or a cold. In the right situation they can work. Most people just don’t realize that the use of these products is limited to those situations.

Pillows

One option you may have seen before is the anti-snoring pillow. These aren’t anything new either. Some of them have a strong chemical smell and others cause neck pain. This isn’t a great option for most people.

Considering the cost of most of these pillows and the many negative experiences that people have had, I recommend skipping this option. Many of them also require you to do things that would keep you from snoring even if you didn’t have a special pillow.

Read more: Anti-Snoring Pillows: How They Are Supposed to Work

CPAP

CPAP-100You have probably heard someone talking about a CPAP before. The CPAP or continuous positive airway pressure device is becoming more and more common. They can be very expensive and require a lot of maintenance too.

A CPAP system can work, but due to the cost and hassle of the system I would recommend saving it for a last resort.

Read more: CPAP as Snoring Solution

Sprays and Pills

pills-sprays290There are many anti-snoring pills and sprays on the market today.

Many of them are natural remedies but tend to focus only on the sinuses. I’ve never seen a rave review of these anywhere but some side effects have been reported by those who have tried them.

Read more: Anti-Snoring Sprays and Pills: When to Use Them

Surgery

There are a few procedures that doctors can do to help put an end to snoring. Some have better results than others and most can be quite painful. Results vary with these procedures.

The best surgical option out there right now seems to be the Pillar procedure.

Other Options

If none of these options sound quite right for you, that’s okay. There are also a variety of natural snoring solutions available. They require some degree of work but that’s up to you should you decide to take that route. Come visit our website where you can set an appointment for a fitting. We accept most insurances. We have many locations to make it easy for you. We have multiple locations to serve you that include Chippewa, Beaver Falls, Sarver, New Castle, Butler, and Cranberry Township.

Have you tried oral appliances to STOP SNORING? | Medical Brealthrough Beaver Falls, PA | sleepmastersofpa.com

A CPAP system or continuous positive airway pressure system is what most doctors recommend to those with sleep apnea. These systems do work, but there are some serious drawbacks to owning or using one.

Unit Cost

The cost of these units is a hard pill for most people to swallow. Some of these machines cost $1,000 or more. That’s just for the base unit. You also need a mask, filters, and tubes. It is very easy to spend $1,500 on a complete setup. This makes it one of the most expensive options available next to corrective surgery. If the cost of the system may be an issue for you then you also need to consider the fact that parts do wear out and need to be replaced.

Usually there are also a lot of mandatory trips to the doctor’s office once you need a solution of this caliber. This system is costly upfront as well as over the long term. You need to think about how well you could handle the costs of this if your insurance isn’t very good or won’t pay for something like this at all.

Why not save time and money and get fitted for an oral appliance today. Mouth Guards and Oral Appliances save you time and money! They are also much more comfortable!

Don’t Overlook Comfort

Another obvious concern is the comfort issue. Most of the masks on the market today look like something you would find in a laboratory or a sci-fi movie. Also, if you have anxiety issues there have been reports of people having anxiety attacks and things like them from wearing one of these face masks. The same thing applies if you are claustrophobic. Putting something on your face that forces air into your body is not the best idea if you have either of those issues.

The upside to this solution is that since it is a medical device all of the products on the market are of similar quality. Some just have more bells and whistles than others. The features and the brand name on the unit are some of the main reasons for price differences with this product.

There are a few types of CPAP units though. Some of them supply a constant level of air pressure that you manually set before going to sleep. Others have two pressure settings so that you can set one for when you inhale and one for when you exhale. A third kind of unit does all of this automatically and because of that it is the most expensive.

Since this option was developed to treat sleep apnea, sometimes referred to as OSA, this is not something that should be used by those who do not have sleep apnea. Buying one of these monsters to stop normal snoring is like buying a new car because the one you’re driving is almost out of gas. It’s overkill and there is no reason for it.

Why not save time and money and get fitted for an oral appliance today. Visit our website. save you time and money! They are also much more comfortable!

How CPAP Works

The way that the system works is very unique. As the name continuous positive airway pressure implies this device basically makes you breathe. It forces air into your body through the mask and keeps your airway open. It works this way because of the basic problem that most sleep apnea sufferers have.

That problem is an obstruction in the airway that closes it completely every so often. The complete blockage of the airway that makes sleep apnea dangerous is why this machine forces air into your body and doesn’t just help you. It does the work for you. When you have one on it is in control of your breathing, not you. If you try one of our mouth oral appliances, you may just find the comfort of breathing that you desire for a restful nights sleep. Visit our site.

Panic and Anxiety

The control aspect is something many people have problems with. It is only human to want to control our own bodies, especially something as vital as breathing. This factor contributes to the panic attacks and anxiety some sleep apnea sufferers face when using a powerful device like this.

Overall the continuous positive airway pressure system is reliable, but not an ideal choice for most people. Even those with sleep apnea often search for an alternative. Some are able to find one, and when they do they are nothing short of thrilled. I would be thrilled to get away from something like this too.

There are many reasons that you should try our oral appliance, although the CPAP machine works. At least you won’t have to be uncomfortable or get used to a loud machine in the background while you sleep or you may avoid  panic and anxiety as well. Why not check us out and see what the hype is all about when dealing with oral appliances. We have some of the best products available for you to try. Thanks for stopping and we hope that you get a good nights rest soon!

CPAP as Snoring Solution? | Beaver Falls, PA Sleep Apnea Expert Try Oral Aplliances | sleepmastersofpa.com

Types of Sleep Aids | Beaver Falls | Cranberry Township | Chippewa | Sarver | sleepmastersofpa.com
